Ethics and Confidentiality

I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and follow their ethical framework; this can be found at www.bacp.co.uk. I have regular supervision and I may need to discuss our work with my supervisor from time to time. This is standard practice and helps me to work as well as I can with you. In this process your identity is not revealed and my supervisor is bound by the BACP Ethical framework for good practice also.

Everything that we discuss in the counselling session is kept in the strictest confidence. In exceptional circumstances, where I am concerned for your well-being, or that of others, I may find it necessary to seek help outside the Counselling relationship. This includes if I felt that you intended to harm yourself or others, in the case of a disclosure concerning acts of terrorism under the Terrorism Act, acts specific to the Children’s Act, confidentiality will be broken and such disclosures will be passed onto the relevant authorities.

I may make brief notes on our sessions and these will be kept in accordance with the Data Protection and are available to you on request. These notes are purely to help me in my work with you, they are strictly confidential. These notes will be securely stored and there will be no way that you can be identified from them.
